Mass Effect Marathon 2.5 Scheduled For May!

With the release of Mass Effect 3, g33kWatch is proud to announce that Mass Effect Marathon 2.5 will be taking place May 5th, 12th and 26th at 10 AM ET!  The team will once again dive back into the Mass Effect Universe for three days of hijinks, calibrations, and occasional game play.

Over the course of the last two marathons, people have been asking us when we would be playing Mass Effect 3.  After last November and the great success that Mass Effect Marathon 2 was, we were predictably tired and didn’t even want to look at a mass relay for awhile.  After we took some time off, and once we had a chance to read all the pleas, we tried to come up with an easier way to celebrate the release of Mass Effect 3, while not burning us out as a group.  So we decided on a format and we’re really happy to tell you about it now!

What games are you playing for Mass Effect Marathon 2.5?

  • We will only be playing Mass Effect 3.  As a group, we had really been hoping that ME3 would’ve been ready last November, but when it wasn’t we still wanted to do a little something for the fans and the community.  So this May we are going to play Mass Effect 3 and just have some fun with it.

Why is the event split into three different days?

  • As much as we love doing the marathons, what we learned last year with the 24-Hour Slumber Party is that it is very possible for us to burn out if we take on too much.  It was with that in mind that we wanted to split up our Mass Effect 3 playthrough into three different days of 8-12 hours each day.  This gives us the ability to have a little bit more casual event, stay fresh and enthusiastic, and still celebrate the end of the Mass Effect trilogy.

What choices will be able to vote on?

  • You actually have a few!  As we have done in previous years, you will have the opportunity to vote in polls that will help us determine how we play the game.  You can vote on polls that will determine:
    • What Shepard should we use?  Choices are Mass Effect Marathon 1′s Male Shepard (Paragon Vanguard), or Mass Effect Marathon 2′s Female Shepard (Paragon Vanguard).
    • What class we will play
    • What alignment we will have
    • Who we will romance
  • We may add to that list, but in the interest of not posting any specific spoilers, we will leave it at that for now.  For people who are watching our livestream, we will ask for your input as we play the game so be sure to tune in and help shape our fate!

Is the event still benefiting Child’s Play Charity?

  • Yes it is!  Throughout the event we will encourage people to donate to Child’s Play Charity which provides video games, toys, books and much more to children’s hospitals around the world.

Are there any donation levels associated with MEM2.5?

  • No, but if you donate during these smaller events, we will ensure that this total carries over to Mass Effect Marathon 3 in November.  So while you will not be unlocking certain events or saving crew members immediately, you will have a lasting impact on what do in future marathons!

Will there be any prizes for MEM2.5?

  • Yes there will be a few prizes here and there.  We still have Mass Effect 2 posters signed by the development team (now with poster tubes to ship!) and a few other things lying around the house.  We will hold raffles for these live on the event so be sure to tune in and find out what we are giving away!

Can we expect the same level of hijinks as previous marathons?

  • We are aiming to make this a very casual event for our fans.  So because of that we are not going to be rehearsing opening dances, writing scripts for Elcor Hamlet, or putting down payments for tattoos.  That being said, we will still be answering your questions in chat, and if you are willing to donate for songs, dances, stunts or whatever else, then we will still do that!

What service are you using to livestream MEM2.5?

  • We have switched to Twitch.TV for this event and will use it again in November for MEM3.  Twitch gives us a lot more flexibility in the quality of the stream, smaller amount of advertisements, and better format in how we archive event footage.  So please be sure to go register for an account and as always you can watch and chat with us directly on our MEM Home Page.

Will the Muppets be there?

  • Damn right they will be!

Can I RSVP for the events on Facebook?

If you have any other questions please feel free to leave a comment on this post and we will answer it as quickly as possible.

Hey guys. I have done charity work for the Wounded Warrior Project and I have been doing research on gaming charities, as I would like to do a 3day non stop BF3. I would like to talk to you on how to set this up and run my ideas past you & have you critique them. Thanks
