Fan Art & Fan Fiction Contest Winners!

As you probably could have figure out, we were a little tired during the actual marathon.  It made reading over your Fan Fiction & Fan Art contest submissions a little bit more difficult than we had previously anticipated.  So because of that, we gave ourselves a full week to really take a look at everything that had come in.  All the entries that found their way into our little inbox were amazing.  The Mass Effect Community has some of the best artists and writers that I’ve seen.  I am biased, but it’s also the truth.  Have just seen such fantastic work and I’m glad that we got a bunch of cool ass stuff to call our own during the marathon.  =)

That all being said, we decided to go with a Top 3 in each category.  If you aren’t listed, we really do still love you!  Just our personal preference so please don’t get angry.  You are all amazing and awesome and we appreciate each and every one of you that submitted an entry  =)

How do the prizes work?  Well the #1 entry for Fan Art gets the Sarren Bead Sprite, and #1 for Fan Fiction gets the Wrex Bead Sprite, both provided by Reborn Flames.  #2 entries in each category will get a poster that was created by our very own Ali that has both Male and Female Shepard and all crew members from both games.  Third place?  You get on the front page!  =)

Winning Entry | Thane & Garrus Cakes by Robyn Cartwright - Holy crap!  That’s all that we could say when these two images got thrown our way.  While it’s not Art in the classic sense, it’s super amazing to see the great craftsmanship that goes into making a cake like this.  We wanted to eat the computer screen when we saw them, and I won’t lie … I still kind of want to.  If Robyn lived anywhere close to us I would beg and plead for her to make us a cake so that we could eat it in person.  That being said, fantastic work Robyn and we hope to see more from you in the future!

Second Place | Kaidan Alenko by Anabel Martinez – You know who gets a lot of crap?  Both Kaidan and Ashley.  They both have fans and they both have haters.  It’s tough to say who is more liked because there are so many people split on the character on both sides.  That being said, this year as we played a FemShep we were excited about the prospect of romancing Kaidan and giving him a break already.  Once we saw this great piece of art of Kaidan, we were just in love.  It looks great so thank you so much to Anabel for blowing us away!  =)

Third Place | Massarama by Star Raven STAT – We love Mass Effect, we love Futurama.  What’s not to like here?!  Also, Zoidberg as a Reaper.  We nearly died of laughter!

Fan Fiction Top 3

• Winning Entry | Serenade Scrap by Melissa aka virusq

LOVED this entry.  It combines Mass Effect, an intense Geth fire fight, some of my favorite crew members and music.  Granted that music happens to be Rod Stewart who isn’t my favorite, but it’s still super fun!  I like the back and forth dialogue, and since Virus is a fangirl of Joker, I just love the way that she writes him.  It’s effective, and very entertaining so congrats!

• Second Place | Hacker! by Laura Ducros

We have a lot of Tali fans in the house, but also a lot of Legion fans as well.  We are also nerds and geeks so we have all been to that part of an MMO where we get so angry about what another player is doing to us.  I liked the idea that Legion is the top dog in this futuristic MMO because he is so efficient, and that Tali is trying to bring him down when she’s vastly under level.  I also really liked the moment when Legion gifts a bunch of items to Tali’s character.  Reminded me of the Paragon option during ME2 and was really cool.  Great job!

• Third Place | For The Children by Toa_of_Pi

Totally biased here but Toa really went above and beyond for this story.  They wrote an entire fiction about the crew of the Normandy needing to raise $30,000 for Child’s Play.  Tons of marathon inside jokes, and I enjoyed the dialogue and the ludicrous nature of the entire narrative.  Fantastic!

So there you have it!  People that got #1 and #2 in each category, be expecting an e-mail soon so that we can ask for your shipping address.  Everyone else, fantastic job it was really difficult to choose.  We loved all of the Fan Submissions and can’t wait for next year!  =)
